YOUTH CAPACITY BUILDING: Takeaways From Kwara Central Youth Symposium Organized By Senator Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe


The Senator representing Kwara Central, Dr. Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe in his continuation of engagements with constituents on Sunday organized Youth Symposium to expose young people to entrepreneurship skills.

Kwara Central Youth Symposium themed: Entrepreneurship: A Panacea for Job Creation attracted over 1000 youths from four local government areas in the senatorial district; Ilorin West, Ilorin South, Ilorin East and Asa.

Panelists comprising academics, successful entrepreneurs, Creativity Artist including Kwara State Commissioners for Works, Rotimi Suleiman Iliasu and Ms Joana Kolo.

In his contributions, Bioye Mumeen PhD implored youths to venture into value chain Agriculture by packaging Rice, Yam flour, Cassava and others in order to earn sustainable income.


”You don’t need to own a farm to participate in Agriculture value by branding and packaging products. Youth can make money in Agriculture business without farming. All you need to do is to add value to any farm produce and serve as link between farmers and buyers. We can also create digital marketing channels for farmers”. Alhaji Mumeen explained.

He charged youths to effectively utilize presence of NCAM and AMTI in Kwara State as well as expand their knowledge of Agricultural business.

Representative of digital payment solution company Opay said many opportunities await Kwara Central Youth who are willing to start their own business, adding that about 50 participants will get point of Sales (POS).


The Commissioner for Works, Hon Rotimi Suleiman Iliasu said youths are playing critical roles in his administration of Governor Abdulrahmam Abdulrazaq, noting that the government is creating platforms for young people to excel.

Senator Oloriegbe while fielding questions from newsmen said the symposium will help reduce unemployment, ensure youths get skills to be self-reliant, tame restiveness among young people and boost economy of Kwara Central Senatorial district.

Highlights of the event was exhibition of new innovation and goods of beneficiaries of previous empowerment programme.


Kwara Central Youth Symposium is the first phase on the road towards building capacity of the youths but young people in the senatorial district should harness available opportunity to reorder their lives towards becoming self-reliant and productive members of the society.
