Kwara State Government  to Improve State-owned Media

The Kwara State Government is to revamp the state-owned media houses to make them fit for purpose.

The State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, stated this on Tuesday while receiving members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) led by her National President, Mr Chris Isiguzo in his office in Ilorin.

Mallam AbdulRazaq, who was represented by his Deputy, Mr Kayode Alabi, acknowledged the importance of effective communication and revealed that the 2020 budget provides for the overhaul of Radio Kwara, The Herald and Kwara Television.

The Governor challenged NUJ to uphold strict standards as social media is filled with many bloggers who publish fake news and other unverified stories capable of tarnishing people’s image and integrity.

Earlier, the National President Nigeria Union of Journalists, Mr Chris Isiguzo lauded the government’s investment in education within a short period.
He equally extolled the government’s completion of projects inherited from the previous administration.

The NUJ president said he was in the state to evaluate the opportunities and challenges confronting journalists in the state to identify solutions.

He appealed to the government to expedite steps to digitise the state-owned media houses inline with contemporary standards.
