Kwara State Government takes Primary health care delivery to a new height 

The Kwara state Government has taken Primary health care delivery in Kwara to a new height in a bid to provide sustainable and affordable basic health care services for its teeming population through the government's partnership with Save One Million Lives-Result (SOML-R), a federal government initiative that is targeted at reducing maternal morbidity and mortality in the country.

This is coming after Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq paid a working visit to the Federal Ministry of Health mid last year where he met with the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Alhaji AbdulAzeez Abdullahi. The Governor during the visit, sought urgent federal government intervention to improve the health and well-being of Kwarans.

The governor received a briefing on priority health issues with emphasis on Kwara state basic health care provision funds, national strategic health development plan and "Save One Million Lives" (SOML P4R).

To this end, the Save One Million Lives-Result initiative was on ground in Kwara in collaboration with the Kwara state Primary Health Care Agency to train about 400 primary health care workers to reduce the prevalence of maternal and child mortality in the various local governments of the state. The full implementation of the scheme has since commenced in the state and Kwara state primary health care is having its story rewritten under the AbdulRazaq led administration positively.

Speaking at a training centre in Omu Aran, Irepodun local government area of the state, the Programme Manager of the SOML-R, Dr Ibrahim Omar, said that the programme is targeted at mothers and children, especially those under five years.

The state government is aware of the dangers posed by fever, malaria, pneumonia to pregnant women especially in the rural communities, a major concern that prompted this capacity building to enhance professionalism and reduce morbidity and mortality rate during childbirth
