The Kwara state Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has commended the leadership of Offa Descendants Union (ODU) for acting proactively by forming a high powered local Technical Committee on COVID-19 to stem the spread of the dreadful virus in Offa Local Government and other parts of the state.
Governor AbdulRazaq made this known in Offa during a condolence visit to the good people of Offa at Olofa of Offa's palace. AbdulRazaq who was received by HRM Oba Muftau Gbadamosi Esuwoye ll also visited the state government's designated holding centre in Offa, General Hospital Offa and a host of other health facilities designated to combat COVID-19 pandemic in the town.
The Governor consequently directed that the Local Committee headed by Professor Abdulwaheed Olatinwo be collapsed into and made a Sub-Committee under the state's Technical Committee on COVID-19. He also approved a location in the outskirts of the town to be designated as the holding centre for contact cases, which he said must begin in earnest.
AbdulRazaq stated that Coronavirus is a strange infectious virus that took the world by surprise but assured Kwarans of victory over the pandemic as Kwara state government was on top of the situation to see to it that global best practices are deployed to contain its spread to other parts of the state.
According to him, the imposition of total lockdown across the state was one of the precautionary measures adopted by the government to curb its spread and to avoid stigmatization of the Offa community.
AbdulRazaq also commended Igbomina Mobile Clinic for their efforts in Offa and other parts of the state. He enjoined all Kwarans to abide by the well spelt out precautionary measures, which include maintenance of high level of personal and environmental hygiene and social distancing to avoid contracting the virus even as he stressed the need for all citizens to obey the Kwara State Infectious Diseases (Emergency) regulations 2020.
