OPINION:Who is the hyena in Kwara APC-By Olufemi Oguntokun
One of the lessons of this lockdown is the understanding that closeness to the family is important, I hardly sit down to watch TV with my children because of the nature of my business.
This evening I was watching a programme on National Geography channel and I got the understanding of the Yoruba proverb _Ise eniyan nise eranko_ (like animals, like man) . The focus of the animal was on "hyenas" . It is called _ikoko_ in Yoruba. The document inspired me to write.
In the animal world, the hyena has been censured by more scandalous untruths than even the sloth. They are considered nature’s thugs and condemned throughout history and across cultures and continents as dim-witted cowards, skulking in the back alleys, waiting for an opportunity to mug other, more noble, animals of their dinner.
Here is an animal that looks and hunts like a dog but is in fact a souped-up member of the mongoose family and therefore more closely related to a cat.
Even more baffling than what kind of animal the hyena is, was the basic question of its gender. According to research, It is the vulgar notion, that the hyena possesses in itself both sexes, being a male during one year, and a female the next.
Following the trend of APC crisis in kwara state, I have read about partymen accusing the governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of dismantling the party that brought him into power. In some quarters, people say he would have won the election as a popular candidate since 2011 without the inputs of the camps within the party. Other people say its a leadership tussle between the governor and the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed. But where two elephants fight, the grasses suffers.
These individuals are only concerned about their share of kwara resources than the true governance kwarans voted for. There is no doubt that within the past 11months, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has changed the image of kwara in both home and abroad. With little resources, he has upgraded kwara health facilities, socio-economy advancement and sports development. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the governor is working round the clock to deliver his campaign promises to kwarans.
Hyenas destroy good things, they are scandalous, they are deceitful, and they are pretenders. We must fish them out.
These individuals with hyena characters are within the party causing troubles between the two camps and feeding on both sides. For the interest of kwarans who want to enjoy the dividends of democracy, the traditional rulers have an important role to play as the case of Hon Saheed Popoola and Hon Femi whyte.
