Delta State: Medical and Dental Practitioners Declare Indefinite Strike Over Abduction Of Colleague

ASABA – The National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP) has declared an indefinite strike over the abduction of their colleague, Dr Wisdom Iboyitete.

He was kidnapped on duty at the Central Hospital at Ojobo town in Burutu, a riverine area of  the state by gunmen.

The chairman of the association, Dr Ebikagboro Olayinka, flanked by members of his executive in Asaba yesterday scored the state government low in the efforts to secure the release of the victim.

They demanded an unconditional release and provision of adequate security by the state government for her employees, especially on the hospital premises.

The association wondered why the victim was yet to be released over 96 hours after the abduction.

“There should be erection of parameter fencing in hospitals presently unfenced. The employment and deployment of security personnel and provide electricity in all hospitals should be a necessity by the state government as the hoodlums operate in darkness”

“We hereby continue with our indefinite strike action until Dr Wisdom Iboyitete is safely released,” Olayinka said.

The chairman, the state Secretary of NMA, Dr Jude Ogbechie, said the entire NMA in the state would soon embark on solidarity strike if the victim should stay in the den of kidnappers.
