Edo/Ondo Guber 2020: Our Slots Not For Sale – PDP

 The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that it governorship slots for Edo and Ondo were not for sale.

Denying negotiating with Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, and Ondo State depu­ty governor, Agboola Ajayi, the party said that it has eminent­ly qualified aspirants ready to take back the states from the the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Addressing newsmen at a press conference in Abuja on Monday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Kola Olog­bondiyan, said that PDP would monitor the deregulation of the downstream sector of the petroleum industry, adding that if market forces were al­lowed to determine the pricess of petroleum products, Nigeri­ans would not be buying fuel for a price beyond N70 per litre.


Fielding questions from newsmen on whether the na­tional leadership of PDP gave Obaseki some conditions to meet, including the demand of a huge sum of money, the party spokesman said that there was no time the leader­ship of the party met with the Edo State governor.

“Which national leadership of the party are you talking about, the NEC or NWC? We can say this before all Nige­rians, under the leadership of Prince Uche Secondus as the National Chairman of the PDP, we do not negotiate slots. We don’t sell slots. It is clear, you can find out. It is strange and totally mis­placed for anybody to make such allegation. I never sat in any meeting where such dis­cussions allegedly took place. The allegation is totally un­founded and it is unaccept­able to us as a party,” he said.

The party further dis­closed that it was not aware that the Ondo State deputy governor was planning to join PDP and also not aware that the party tried to bring Obaseki on board.

The party spokesman said: “I am not aware of a defection in Ondo State. I am also not aware if we tried to convince Governor Obaseki to join the PDP. I am aware that the PDP has aspirants in Edo and Ondo states. Prior to the situation in Edo, our party was open and any Nigerian, who was ready to contest a clean, clear, free, fair and democrat­ic primaries, was at liberty to join the party.”
