Edo governorship election will hold on Saturday, September 19, 2020.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) has said that 15 political parties would participate in the upcoming gubernatorial election in Edo State.
Johnson Samikiem, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, made this known at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City on Thursday, June 25, 2020, after monitoring the governorship primary of the Peoples Democratic Party.
He said, “INEC is fully prepared to conduct a free and credible election in the state. And to this regard, we have 15 political parties who have registered with us to participate in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.”
Samikiem said he monitored PDP’s primary election in the state because INEC INEC is empowered by the law to monitor any elections.
He said, “So far so good, I am impressed with the conduct of the election particularly its compliance with the electoral laws as regards the COVID-19 regulations.
“INEC is empowered by the law to monitor any election in the country, and that is why I’m here.”
