Kwara State Government to decisively Combat Malnutrition Menace ravaging the vulnerable groups.

In a statement issued by Daibu Abubakar, the Press Secretary, Ministry for Finance and Planning, evening hours of today. It disclose that;

Kwara State Government has again reiterated her readiness to decisively address the chronic malnutrition menace that is ravaging the physical and mental growth of children, women and vulnerable groups in the society. 

Commissioner for Finance and Planning, Mrs. Oyeyemi Olasumbo Florence declared this during the second quarter meeting of the State Committee for Food and Nutrition, held at the Ministry's Conference Room, Ilorin.

Mrs. Oyeyemi noted that the State can have a generation of healthy and vibrant leaders only if malnutrition is squarely and decisively addressed.

The Commissioner further stated that His Excellency, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has keen interest in any programme that will address the challenges of the downtrodden in the society, adding that the Food and Nutrition Policy which is geared towards the eradication of malnutrition is central to having a healthy and prosperous society that will be peaceful and progressive.

She gave the assurance that the Abdulrazaq-led administration will give all the necessary support to fast track the implementation of the Food and Nutrition policy for the benefits of the vulnerable members of the State.

Also speaking at the meeting, the Director of Planning, Alhaji Issa N. Ibrahim commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq  over the resuscitation of the Food and Nutrition programme in Kwara State.

He noted that the programme had always been in existence in the State before it became moribund due to lack of funding and political will in the past, adding that it was due to the magnanimity and compassionate leadership of the State Governor that the laudable programme was resuscitated through the release of N50 million counterpart fund which is geared towards ensuring the eradication of chronic malnutrition among vulnerable groups.

Earlier, the State Coordinator of the Civil Society Scaling Up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN) in Kwara State, Mr. Fatoye Francis appraised the strong political will of the AbdulRazaq-led administration, stating that the exemplary leadership exhibited by the Governor ensured that Kwara State has a Policy for the implementation of Food and Nutrition programmes in the State.

He further disclosed that the fifty million naira Counterpart Fund paid for Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria (ANRiN) necessitated  the take-off of Food and Nutrition programmes in Kwara State and this will enable further development opportunities.

However, Mr. Fatoye implored the State Government not to relent in ensuring the Food and Nutrition programmes thrive in the State, charging the State Government to take ownership of the laudable programmes to ensure its efficiency in eradicating malnutrition in Kwara State.
