LASEMA Commences Search Of Four-Year- Old Girl Swept By Floods In Lagos

The Collapsed Building

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has commenced a search operation at 38 Fashola Street, off Olabode Street Papa Asafa Orile Agege to recover a four-year-old child identified as Azizat, who was swept away by floods of the heavy rainfall in Lagos on Thursday.

The incident reportedly happened around 10 a.m. during the torrential rainfall with the attendant heavy flooding.

Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, Director-General of LASEMA, has confirmed the incident.

Meanwhile, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has also enjoined residents of Lagos State to look out for the body of the four- year-old girl.

Expectedly, the flood from Fashola Street runs through Aboru; Iyana Ipaja; Command in Lagos State and cross to Ota in Ogun State but ends up at Agbara where the canal discharges into the sea.

NEMA and LASEMA have put resources together in recovery operations as soon as distressed alert was received but the body has not been recovered.

This necessitated the call on the people in these areas with credible information on the recovery of the body to call the attention of emergency/security agency in their area if they see the body.

Azizat lived with her parents located at 38 Fashola Street, off Odebode Street, Papa Ashafa, Orile Agege, but when their house was overtaken by floods and in an effort to relocate to higher ground with other residents, Azizat mistakenly missed her step into a drainage that was covered with flood and was swept away.
