The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) has stood vehemently against the Federal Government’s appointment of Ahmed Tijjani Mora as Chairman of the Governing Board of Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) which was inaugurated on June 15,2020.
The pharmacists had in a letter signed by PSN’s President, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, and the past presidents – Dr. Philip Emafo, Senator Eme Ekaette, and Alhaji Mohammed Budah – petitioned the Federal Government against the appointment.
One of the grouses why the PSN rejected Mora’s appointment was that it was an imposition by the Federal Government.
They alleged that Dr. Osagie Ehanire, Minister of Health, shunned the entreaties to be rationale and responsible in the bid to restore the full complement of the value chain in pharmaceutical services in the country.
The PSN insists that the Chairman of PCN ought to have been selected from the three nominees sent through the Federal Ministry of Health from which the Federal Government will make a credible choice as chairman.
Alternatively, the President can appoint any other pharmacist from the same zone as A. T. Mora, the Society said.
In line with their tradition, the PSN said that it recommended Pharm. (Alhaji) Yaro Budah, PSN Past President, to the Minister of Health for appointment as the PCN Chairman, alleging that Mora manipulated the arrangement.

The Society also alleged that in the first letter to the Minister of Health dated May 16, 2018 with reference No. DHS/830/1/28 , a copy which was made available to Saturday INDEPENDENT that it recommended Alhaji Budah to the SGF for appointment as PCN Chairman.
The statement partly reads: “Then Alhaji A.T. Mora went into his usual trade of subverting the PSN, by lobbying, manipulating and coaxing the same Minister of Health to substitute the name of Alhaji Yaro Budah with his own name. Thereby the second attached letter dated October 25, 2018 with the same Reference No: DHS/830/1/28 was written to the SGF, now nominating Alhaji A.T. Morah,” it insisted.
