Kwara Community leader tasks faith groups on COVID-19

The Coordinator of Igbomina Mobile Healthcare, Elder Olaitan Oyin Zubair has challenged clerics of various religious faiths to desist from denying through public sermons, the existence of COVID 19 pandemic in their domains even where experts have identified confirmed positive cases of the disease.

He opined that such acts did not only amount to self deceit, denials and unlawful but a disservice to their communities who needed help to contain the spread of virus.

He stated that a recent development where health workers and volunteers were attacked in two communities poised a great risk to workers giving their best services during this critical period of line spread of the virus.

Elder Oyin-Zubair added that C19 attacks can't be identified by mere observations but through clinical processes, which only NCDC can provide.

He also added that the range of manifestations of the disease varies from mild, moderate to severe and critical while  pointing out that in some cases it may not come with usually known signs of fever and cough amongst others.

Elder Oyin-Zubair reminded all and sundry that enormous resources both at public and private  levels have been committing in fighting the scourge and it behoves everybody including religious and community leaders to support government efforts.

The issue of community stigmatisation in identified areas, he added, should not be paramount than getting the area cleansed.

Elder Oyin-Zubair was full of praises to the Kwara state government under Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq, the State COVID 19 Committee chaired by his Deputy, Mr Kayode Alabi and other members as well as the Engine Room of COVID 19 pandemic in the state headed by Dr Tosin Fakayode for quick and prompt responses to calls for actions.
