Ekiti: Monarch Decries Poor Funding Of Police, Advocates for Community Policing

The Chairman of Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers, Oba Ajibade Alabi had decried poor funding of the Nigeria Police alleging that moston information lacked basics facilities to combat crime .

Oba Alabi ,who is the Alawe of Ilawe Ekiti,said it was was embarrassing that many police divisions in the country including that of Ilawe Ekiti could not boast of serviceable patrol vans.

He therefore called philanthropists as well as corporate bodies in Nigeria to support government in funding and equipping of the Nigerian Police in order to meet the ever increasing security challenges in the various communities.

Alawe made the appeal while welcoming the new Commissioner of Police in Ekiti state Mr Babatunde Mobayo who paid him a courtesy visit.at his Palace in Ilawe-Ekiti.

A statement signed by Chief Ajibade Olubunmi Media Adviser to the monarch called on stakeholders to also support government in funding the Police .

Oba Alabi welcomed the idea of community policing as traditional rulers and the locals know the nooks and crannies of their communities. The monarch assured the new State Commissioner of Police, Mr Babatunde Mobayo of the cooperation of all Obas in Ekiti state in tackling security Challenges.

The Alawe told his visitor who came in company of his lieutenants in the force in the state that Ekiti has been relatively peaceful because of the efforts of the former police commissioner, Amba Asuquo with the cooperation of the government and people stressing that the same hands of fellowship would be stretched to the new CP. 

Oba Alabi advised the new Commissioner of police to handle Chieftaincy disputes in state with caution and with respect to tradition .


The new police commissioner Mr Babatunde Mobayo said the courtesy visit was the first to a traditional ruler in Ekiti State stressing that he believed so much in community policing and that he would encourage such in Ekiti state.The state police boss solicited the support of traditional rulers in making the project a success.

He further said that the police in the state had been informed that they should adopt Alternate Dispute Resolution mechanism as much as possible in the overall interest of the peace loving people of Ekiti State. Mr Mobayo thanked Oba Alabi for his wise counsel.

Those who received the new commissioner of police were the wife of Alawe Olori Abimbola Alabi and members of Alawe in Council and some Women Chiefs

The Ekiti State Chairman of the traditional rulers used the occasion to bless and pray for Mr Mobayo wishing him a successful tenure in the State.
