Op-Ed: Bayern Beat Barcelona Mercilessly

By Soliu Arowolo Adam

The football club of Barcelona were eliminated from the champions league Quarter-Finals Yesternight. Thanks to eight goals scored by Bayern Munich. Thomas Muller broke the deadlock after just four minutes, but David Alaba's Own goal levelled the score line. As the game went on, Bayern Munich showed an obvious dominance over the Catalan giant.

Bayern Munich brilliant attackers capitalised on the Blaugrana defenders weaknesses. The fate of the match started to show direction, as goals from Ivan Perisic, Serge Gnabry and Thomas Muller made the halftime to end in 4-1. A halftime score not typical of such a seemingly expected tough match.

However, Barcelona's hope was Enkindled when Luiz Suarez scored a beautiful goal just before an hour time. The goal ended up his 1,952 minutes of not scoring away from camp Nou in the champions league. The last time the Uruguayan scored away from camp nou was in September 2015 against As Roma.

But Joshua Kimmich's sixty three minutes goal seemed to end the Catalan giant hope. As Bayern Munich players played with a lot of confidence.

Roberto Lewandowski scored his twelve goals of the season with a tap in header after the video assistant referee check up for a possible offside.

The humiliation continued, as Barcelona's on loan player to Bayern Munich, Philippe Coutinho scored his first goal of the day few minutes after he was substituted in, in the eighty five minutes to make the scoreline 7-2.

He added another goal to brake the heart of his parent club, to make sure that the match ended in 8-2 scoreline.

The last time that Barcelona conceded eight goals in a single match was in 1946, when they were thrashed 8-0 by Sevilla in Copa del Rey.

Yesternight humiliation, made sure that Barcelona didn't reach the champions league final in five consecutive seasons. As they ended the season without winning any of Champions league, Laliga and Copa del Rey.

Bayern Munich have qualified to the Semi-finals and will play against the winner of Manchester city and Lyon.
