The Permanent Secretary to Kwara State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajia Afusat Nike Ibrahim today created a media awareness on child molestation, being a threat to the society and a stumbling block to the state's development as a whole.
The Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development which is saddled with the responsibility of women and children emancipation has shown great aversion for children being used as Poverty Alleviation identities.
Hajia Afusat was today featured on a Radio program segment titled: YOUR RESPONSIBILITY, sponsored by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development at Midland 99.1 FM Station. .
While addressing the imperative of Child Development, she frowns at Child Abuse and maltreatment which could be in the form of hawking and engaging in menial jobs when their mates are in school.
In her words, "Children are the future of the country, therefore there is need to cater for and ensure their development".
She further stated that "The Child's Right Act of 2003 states the 4 main Rights of a Child which include the Right to Survive, Right to be Protected, Right to be Developed and the Right to be Heard & Participate in Policy making as it affects them. The Act was adopted by the Kwara State Government in 2006 and passed to the Kwara State Ministry of Justice where it is currently undergoing review.
"However, it is time for our women to channel their energies towards Child Upbringing as they need to support their children for a better tomorrow. They are the main player that build the path of attainment in children" she emphasized.
The Permanent Secretary therefore enjoined women to eschew cosmetic and materialistic tendencies, but rather support their children to attain great feat in life through psychological, physical educational, and emotional guidance.
