The Oyo State House of Assembly on Tuesday confirmed the appointment of Dr. Lateef Oyeleke as Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources.

Speaking at plenary, the Speaker, Mr Adebo Ogundoyin, urged Oyeleke to work in tandem with the House of Assembly.

Ogundoyin said that he had no doubt in his abilities, hence his nomination by Gov. Seyi Makinde.

“I’m very sure that Gov. Makinde made the best choice by picking you to fill in for the Late Kehinde Ayoola.

“I’m sure you will handle this position seriously, looking back at your past record and curriculum vitae.

“We would be readily available to support you so as to achieve much more. You should work in tandem and not in isolation,” he said.

The speaker added that the house would be reaching out to him often for the betterment of Oyo state.

Oyeleke after his confirmation, pledged to ensure radical changes in the approach of indiscriminate disposal of waste.

He said that a clean, safe and healthy environment was his target for the state.

“We would create a public enlightenment to make people know that cleanliness is next to godliness. The priority is a clean and healthy environment,” he said.

The commissioner added that two dumping sites in the state were currently undergoing reconstruction.

“Part of what we would be doing in the state is turning our waste to wealth. I will look into building of illegal kiosk and shanties on roads, by school fences.

“I’ll set up a task force to know where the occupants got their approvals from and do all necessary things to curb this menace,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that Oyeleke was born on Jan. 29, 1969.

Oyeleke was a former Chairman, Community and Social Development Agency. He also has a Ph.D. in Energy Law.
