Today marks exactly one month, that the Nigerian first female combat pilot, Tolulope Arotile, left the surface of the landscape called planet earth to the great beyond. The circumstances surrounding her death were as painful as her exit.
The month of July will remain indelible in the history of this state, particularly July 15th, Nigeria and indeed the world, after waking up to the news of the tragic passing of the country's first female combat pilot, a feat not matched by anyone in the last 55 years of Nigerian air force creation.
Tolulope since her commission as a military officer was largely unpopular, or let me say many of us didn't take conscious of her feat, the lots, I regretfully belonged. Her eventual passage gave her some sort of prominence which one would ordinarily expect to remain as evergreen and fresh as the dew in their minds, Regrettably, that's not the case.
Although, little is relatively known about the childhood of this enigmatic combatant warlord, What we can say from little research of information gathered online is that she was sired into this mother earth by Mr and Mrs Arotile about 23 years ago.
Arotile, from her tender days, was elected to be a military officer, as said by her -Because of the passion I have for it- at her age, she has found her purpose when many youths of her age bracket are still masturbating on what the future holds for them.
Since the announcement of her demise, I am distraughted to say the least about the gory, Unprofessional and disrespectful manner in which her death was announced, not even about the Institution involved but for the personage of Tolulope.
Many tongues have rolled, not least, that she was killed because of the possible revelation of sorts she might have gotten about the insurgency business after coming back from the war front, to underscore that claim by some quarters, it took the NAF pressure to give further details as to what happened that led to our hero’s eventual death.
As Ernest Hemingway, author and journalist remarked, “Every man’s life ends the same way. It is only the details of how he lived and how he died that distinguish one man from another.” Arotile doesn't deserve to have been laid to rest amid hot controversy about circumstances leading to her death.
Till date, the footage of the manner has not been made available, it then shows that the NAF headquarters does not have central surveillance that captures all happening in the base, how then do we win the war against insurgency if an integral part is as rudderless as it is.
Chuck Palahniuk in his wisdom said, "We all die. The goal isn’t to live forever, the goal is to create something that will." Tolulope Arotile has written her name in the sand of time, we hope that she will be immortalised as she has personified the strength of the Girl-child in an environment that doesn't recognize it.
I wish our Dear Tolulope Arotile a peaceful rest in the great beyond, and to members of her family and her later day admirers, I say, take heart, because the Lord giveth and taketh.
