After last season's home and away defeat to Manchester city in the champion's league last 16. I thought that the management of Real Madrid club is going to overhaul the squad before the beginning of 2020/2021 season, but reverse was the case. Of course, majority of Real Madrid players were already weak. Most of them have reached the hoary phase of their football career. The likes of Kroos, Ramos, Benzema, Modric and Marcelo are over thirty years (30yrs) while Casemiro and Carvajal are twenty eight (28yrs). Though young players like Rodrygo, Mendy, Jovic, Vinicius and Valverde are part of the team, but they are not performing up to the expectations. Likewise Odegaard and Mayoral returned back to the squad from the team where they were serving loan.
Real Madrid is a traditional team known for winning cups both the domestic and international ones. One might not be wrong, if one says that the signing of Eden Hazard as the replacement of ex- golden boy, Cristiano Ronaldo was a complete waste of money. Since the signing of the former blues forward, he has been nurturing injuries in days and weeks. And he is not expected to perform than he has done, because his football career is also coming to an end.
I'm perplexed, because instead of Real Madrid management to make good and convincing signings to the squad , they rather sold young players like James Rodriquez, Akimi Achraf, Reguilion and also Loan out Gareth Bale. I don't know what has given the management so much confidence to see the offloading of those players as the best. Maybe it was last year Laliga title that the team won which wasn't freed from controversies or a reason unknown to me.
The players which Zinedine Zidane won three consecutive champions league title with , still remained in the team. In the last two champions league's seasons, Real Madrid failed to reach the Semifinal stage. Which should be a concern for a typical Real Madrid fan. A Real Madrid club that won the champions league thirteen times, more than any other club, is expected to reach at least the Semi final stage of the champions League in every season.
One wouldn't believe that the management wouldn't have signed Kylian Mbappe before the beginning of the 2020/2021 season, as the french forward is one of the main targets of Real Madrid. Since his rise to prominence.
Real Madrid as a team known well for its Counter-atttack . The signing of player like Mbappe who is good at keeping pace will make Real Madrid fans to remain positive for the 2020/2021 season.
Like every other team, the Corona Virus Pandemic must have affected Real Madrid financial status. Because for couple of months, matches were played behind closed doors. Which made so many teams to loose millions of dollars. But, from the little amount the managements have made from the players that were sold out, One or two players should be signed in order to strengthen the weakness of the squad.
A goalless draw against Real Sociedad in the opening match of the 2020/2021 Laliga season wasn't convincing. As most of the players, showed a lost in strength.
I therefore hope that the Real Madrid management will make brilliant signings before the end of the transfer window. As doing that will give the team a good chance of winning its fourteenth champion's league title.
