The prelimenary stage of the Spelling championship started with the Junior Secondary School category at exactly 9am.
The Junior Secondary School Students were arranged into hall in three batches.
Each batch spent 20 minutes to put into writing 100 words, an exercise that lasted for an hour and some minutes for the JSS category.
The Spelling Championship for the senior category commenced at exactly 11:00am. Where students were also arranged into the hall in batches.
The organizers made sure each batch was well spaced in order to abide by COVID 19 rules and regulations. 65 students made up each batch at max.
The Spelling Championship was initially organized to help improve the academic performance of these students but considering the turn out, we felt it would also be a good avenue to help improve their spirit of competitiveness.
After these spelling sessions, the scripts were scored and the qualified students will be reached through their parents/guardians for the next stage of the competition.
The first batch of the senior category was ushered into the hall at exactly 11:10am and they all sitted at exactly 11:20am, 80 words were dictated to them with ultimatum time of 20 minutes.
The second batch entered the hall at 11:50am and 80 word were dictated to the batch too. The organizers stayed behind after the program to mark and collate results ahead of the next stage.
