Historically, the media have played a powerful role in politics and society – both as a catalyst for peace and as a platform for encouraging massive violence. Media practitioners in general, and radio journalists in particular, are frequently constrained by low pay and a lack of training and preparation, particularly with regards to dealing with contentious issues. A lack of understanding of common media standards and ethics not only affects the quality of reporting but also encourages corruption.

Recognizing the key role of the media in fostering community dialogue and disseminating potentially divisive information. Achieving sustainable development in media space would help in strengthening the capacity of journalists. Other ways to achieve this is by organizing training sessions for media professionals on radio production techniques, financial management, strategic communication and conflict sensitive journalism, and to also provide equipment and technical support, in the form of one-on-one coaching and group training activities for station media practitioners and journalists.

Gaddafi, while interacting with some online media influencers and journalists in Ilorin earlier today, made it known that He is ready to give back to the society and he has chosen to do that through Sustainable development and Human capacity building.

He said; “I am always happy at what Kwara youths have been able to achieve from nothing through online journalism and new media generally, I feel proud being a youth from Kwara.

“As a businessman, who started from the scratch, I know how hard it is for start-ups to start breaking even and making profit, so I see offering an helping hand will be a good way to give back to the society.

“While I commend your efforts, I have noticed that your job can be better enhanced with capacity building, assistance with gadgets among others.

“In that light, I will be facilitating at intervals capacity training on content development, creative writing, digital marketing among others aimed at assisting to sanitise the online media space and make it profitable for the players.

“In addendum to that, I’ve also noticed that most of you lack necessary gadgets, so I’ll in my own little way try to assist you with the basic gadgets to further enhance your job” he promised

Appreciating him on behalf of the team, Kazeem Alanamu expressed delight in the fact that someone has risen to offer an hand of assistance to the Kwara State based ever growing and expanding online media space.

Majority of the online media practitioners in Kwara are actually struggling on several fronts, so we need all the support we can get, we appreciate your offer of support and we look forward to cementing a mutually beneficial relationship.
