My attention was drawn to a grammatical error laced video, released by one Ameliorator Yakub Ishowo, to desecrate Senator Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe giant strides in the senate and rubbish his many salient and people's oriented bills and motions. The 10-minute video which he titled 'Message to Kwara Central Youth' was a follow-up to another episode he released some months back. And he confessed at the beginning of the said clip that, most of the comments and reactions that trailed the previous episode appealed for patience with the elected lawmakers before judging their performances. Despite those reasonable cautions, just like a proverbial dog that is destined for lost, Ishowo, the self-proclaimed 'ameliorator' didn't deem it fit to give his targets benefits of the doubt before he went on cyberspace again to post another video on the same subject.
It is therefore civic duties-bond for observers like us to school him on what he is ignorant of so that his false claims won't stand on to be taken as facts by his unsuspecting audience and others who might come across the clip.
Noteworthy points, that I will like my readers to ponder on include but not limited to;
1. Oloriegbe and his colleagues assumed office on the 11th of June last year, after which they embarked on a two-month compulsory recess in July and resumed in September to continue their legislative works.
Work began earnestly in September up to early this year when the novel Covid-19 broke out and crippled almost all of our national life. The entire world is on recovery mode until this period.
Between June last year till this very moment, the senate only convened for roughly seven months and in between these months, Senator Oloriegbe sponsored 8 bills and co-sponsored not less than 15 impactful bills and numerous motions.
I have to categorically state this that, the major function of a legislator is legislation -- to make law and perform oversight cum representation functions of which the senator has performed excellently well, and rated one of the best at the moment. Yakubu Ishowo ought to have provided the first year scorecard of the previous lawmakers from Kwara State if he felt Oloriegbe has not done enough.
Ishowo, in his woeful video, disregarded 'Legislation' and 'oversight' which are the core functions of a legislator either due to his limited knowledge of how senate works or crass ignorance.
One would have expected a sane adult and supposed elite like him to be up and doing and be conversant with the legislative process having enjoyed the privilege of being a former SRC and later SU President, during his studentship days at my prestigious Better By Far citadel of learning, University of Ilorin.
It's most unfortunate that Ishowo allowed sentiments to becloud his sense of reasoning and his education, hitherto put to waste.
Chuba Okadigbo once postulated that "your education is useless the moment truth becomes a secondary consideration in your life."
I hope Ishowo Yakub will retrace his steps from where he lost.
2. I was utterly disappointed when Ishowo alleged that the projects facilitated by Senator Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe do not reflect the needs of our constituency.
Thankfully, he made mention of some of the projects and from where I will point out his idiocy.
How can a right-thinking human say ICT training is of no importance at this computer age that we are in?
To successfully navigate through the thick and thin of the global world, one needs to have at least a basic knowledge of computer and to my utter consternation, Ishowo said that's never what we needed but what? He never provided answers to that question!.
Aside youths and students, our society boasts of the aged and the downtrodden, mostly the womenfolk, they constitute a larger percentage of our society, hence, the need for the farsighted Senator Oloriegbe to find ways to ameliorate their suffering and cushion the effects of their daily work by facilitating training on cassava and poultry productions and processing for which will boost their workforce and enhance economic growth amongst the people of his constituency.
So, how is this not important to the constituents of senator Oloriegbe?
I can see that Ishowo is frustrated and is out there to make cheap political points, but whatever is his reason, it has no manifestation whatsoever as lies can never outweigh facts and figures.
I will urge Ishowo and his minions to go and do more research on legislative works and protocols before coming out to spew garbage and show his crass stupidity.
3. Out of frustration and vain effort to rubbish his target, Ishowo went ahead to credit industrial peace training - a project that's meant for Honorable Alajagusi Sadeeq Yekeen to Senator Oloriegbe. That shows a clear manifestation of what Ishowo is trying to do in his outburst; to ridicule Senator Oloriegbe and instigate public sentiments against him despite his performances.
The "Industrial peace" project was not facilitated by the Senator, nevertheless, the unconscious false claim had exposed Ishowo Yakub's lack of research on what he was saying before going on to make the scandalous video.
4. Ishowo in the video also derided Senator Oloriegbe on account of his failure to get approved, the Federal College of Education he is proposing for Asa. A right-thinking individual would know that project facilitation by the lawmakers including the institution in question are like proposals, the approval is at the prerogative of the executive head viz the president. Why should Oloriegbe take the blame because the institution wasn't approved yet? Is he the one to fund it? Did Oloriegbe has any budget for that effect? Concededly that Kwara missed out in the recently approved ones, does that mean we won't ever get it anymore? Who told Yakub that those approved were just proposed and lobbied by the newly elected representatives from the benefitting States? Besides, it was not only Oloriegbe amongst Kwara Federal lawmakers that proposed the institution to be sited in his constituency, Hon. Raheem Tunji Olawuyi Ajuloopin and Sen. Sadiq Umar also proposed it to be sited in their respective constituency. If not for sheer hatred and cynicism, why did Ishowo singled out Sen. Oloriegbe for derision and left others?
Another thing he accused the Senator of is talking with no commensurate actions. What he fails to understand is that Oloriegbe is just a member of one of the institutions that made up the government. No matter how lovely are his ideas and suggestions, they are subjected to concession and approval of his colleagues and most importantly the executive arm of government that is in charge of the implementations. Not even the Senate President can get things done on his own.
5. Lastly, Yakub concluded his mischievous video with an appeal to the youth to inculcate the habit of asking questions from their representatives. It would have been better and sound convincing if he had provided evidence of the questions cum inquiry message he had written to his representatives on their representation which they failed to provide him with a response. Perhaps he is suggesting that everyone should follow him in making error-laden; false claims polluted and pointless social media videos to discredit the elected officials in the name of asking questions.
May Lord cure Yakubu Ishowo and his likes of their ignorance for the good of our society.
