Members of Surulere Oloriegbe Youth Forum, a Pro-Oloriegbe group in Ilorin South Local government area were today at the Ipata Market, Ilorin, to embark on a sanitation exercise to rid the market of dirt and filths.
The cleansing activities which kicked off around 8:00 last about four hours as the group not only swept and packed the refuses around the major parts of the market but also clear the blocked drainages to ease the free flow of water within the market premises.
The group Chairman, Comrade Ahmed Shola Saheed expressed that the exercise was carried out as a community social responsibility which their objectives focus on.
"What we are doing is to demonstrate that governance involves communal participation. And as a political group promoting Sen. Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe representing Kwara Central at the National Assembly, we don't need and we won't wait till political period before we come out to embark on social responsibilities just to hoodwink the masses. We are civic duty-bond to take part in our own little way. This is one of what we are doing to promote our man, Sen. Oloriegbe. "
The Babaloja of Ipata Market, Alh. Dauda Owura while speaking with the newsmen appreciated the group for the initiative. He expressed that they felt impressed with the group's effort in making clean their environment. "This laudable effort is a great relief for us this week in the Ipata market and we are much impressed considering the fact that it is not coming when it can be ascribed to politics."
"I want to enjoin our people to have waste bin within their stalls corridor to reduce indiscriminate refuse dumping." He added.
The group while advising the marketers to always ensure neatness in their environment in order to attract more patronage, also commended the State Government under Gov. Abdulrahman Abdulrazak for his numerous efforts to make the State a toast of all
