IGP Orders Arrest Of Sunday Igboho Over Quit Notice

By SAEED TIJJANI

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the immediate arrests of Sunday Igboho.

Mr. Garba Shehu, who is the presidential spokesman, confirms the arrest order to BBC Hausa during its programme on Friday.

He said the IGP informed him of his directive to Ngozi Onadeko, the Oyo commissioner of police, to arrest Igboho and transfer him to Abuja.

Recalled that Sunday Igboho earlier gave an eviction notice to the Fulani Herdsman living in Igangan in Ibarapa north local government area of Oyo State, to leave within seven days following reports of the killing of some Oyo citizens.

He had blamed herders and Fulanis, including Saliu Kadri, the Seriki Fulani, of being behind the rising insecurity in the area.

The quit notice generated tension in parts of the state, prompting the Oyo state Governor, Seyi Makinde, to ask the IGP to arrest those causing trouble under the guise of protecting the interest of Yoruba people.

The governor had told the police commissioner to treat people fueling ethnic tension, there by causing unrests as criminals, and get them arrested.
