A Yoruba aphorism states that "yini yini keni ko le se mi" - appreciation motivates more achievements. When one's masquerade dances well in the market square, we become elated.
While many events had unfolded over the past few days, one of which is the hubble-bubble news about the sacked SUBEB teachers code-named "sunset" workers in Kwara state. Some vested interests have defended the decision of the government while some have condemned in stern terms the process of their disengagement.
The government, has wittingly seen such public vituperation as a clarion call - which is part of the gains of democracy.
Commendably, the Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq came out to make his stance known to the kwaran populace in his new year Message of Hope tagged "Building a new future for Kwara".
This is a pointer to the fact that Governor AbdulRazaq is in charge and very conversant with happenings in the state. He is renewing hope in the minds of the people by remedying his earlier vow that he wouldn't retrenched the the sunset teachers upon his assumption of office in 2019.
He commented on the need for the government to spring up a new process to fill the vacuum in the education sector by recruiting new crop of teachers across the length and breadth of the state. While admitting that there were qualified hands within the disengaged teachers, he regretted the decision taken but ready to right the wrong describing the nullified process as "egregiously faulty".
As a conscientious government, Gov. AbdulRazaq led administration said it has equally spelt out sanctions against those elements whose actions messed up his efforts to reform the nullified process.
As a close observer of the recruitment excercise, I believe the new process will not be allowed compartmentalized by the high and low despite the clear appeal made by the government to all and sundry to pave way for a meritorious, free and fair recruitment excercise.
May Kwara be great again!
