A bill to upgrade the Federal Polytechnic,Offa Kwara State into a degree awarding institution has passed second reading on the floor of the Senate, and has been referred to the Senate Committee on Sports and Social Development.
9japarrot learnt that the bill which is sponsored by the Senator representing Kwara South Senatorial district, Sen. Lola Ashiru was previously read for the first time on Tuesday 27th April 2021.
The institution which was founded in 1992 is ranked amongst the top 10 polytechnics in Nigeria, and already runs degree programs in affiliation with the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA), alongside and an IJMB program in collaboration with Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
According to Sen. Ashiru, the objectives of the bill is to upgrade the Federal Polytechnic Offa, from Diploma awarding Institution to Degree awarding Institution and Providing courses of instruction and other facilities in different disciplines for the pursuit of learning in all its branches, and to make those facilities available on proper terms to such persons as are equipped to benefit from them.
The Senate Committee on Sports and Social Development has been given 4 weeks to report back to the Senate
