KW-IRS Seeks Collaboration Of KWASU In Growing IGR For Kwara State




In continuation of the working visits of the Executive Chairman of Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS), Shade Omoniyi, towards partnering in improving revenue for the State, a stop was made today Tuesday 18th May, 2021 at the Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, to discuss possible contributions of the institution to the growth of the Internally Generated Revenue of the State.

Shade Omoniyi noted that she was delighted to finally meet with the new Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Mohammed Mustapha Akanbi (SAN).

While commending the University for the payment of its outstanding PAYE (Pay As You Earn) liabilities, the Executive Chairman, KW-IRS, stated that, the visit was to further look at ways to improving remittances, block revenue leakages, and seek total compliance of the institution to payment of all payable revenue lines and in capturing all revenue as required.

Omoniyi further informed the host about the new automated system of the Service, which allows for easy payment of taxes, enjoining KWASU to use the online payment platforms provided by the State for ease and optimal reconciliation of revenue paid by the institution.

Bringing up the issue of the Finance Act 2020, she appealed to the Vice-Chancellor to assist the revenue agency in achieving its set goals with regards to deduction and remittance of Stamp Duty on all contracts awarded by the University and by ensuring correct deductions and remittance are made.

She also requested proper remittance of PAYE from the KWASU Microfinance Bank and sought the indulgence of the University to furnish KW-IRS with list of businesses permitted to operate within its premises for the purpose of accurate data capturing.


The Vice-Chancellor of the University for Community Development, KWASU, Professor Akanbi, appreciating the visit, promised partnership with the Service in every possible areas and disclosed need for the Service to support in funding some projects and sponsoring professorial seats in the institution.

 He also promised to return the visit to give room for more comprehensive brainstorming and to promote the working relationship of the two institutions.

The Executive Chairman, KW-IRS, has on her team, the Director, Admin and Operations, Olatunji Balogun; the Director, Legal and Compliance, Shehu Mogaji Abdullahi Esq; and some staff of the Service.

On hand to receive the KW-IRS team, alongside the Vice Chancellor, were the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Professor Sheik Luqman Jimoh; the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Admin) Professor Omololu Oladele Fagbojuwo; the Deputy Registrar, Mrs. B. Ishola; the Bursar, Mr. Akeem Sonde; and other principal officers.
