2023 Election: ASKOMP Cautions Politicians On Fake News, Inciting Comments

The Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP) has charged politicians, candidates and their supporters to shun politics of violence, name calling and bitterness ahead of 2023 general elections.

The ASKOMP Chairman and Publisher of Informant247, Shola Salihu Taofeek made this call on Saturday after its monthly meeting held on Saturday in Ilorin.

The umbrella body for professional Online Media platforms in Kwara State also implored candidates of political parties to run issues-based camp in order to help electorates make informed decision during the forthcoming elections.

The statement read:

"We appeal to politicians to avoid spreading fake news, hate speeches and Inciting Comments that can jeopardize the peace of Kwara State and Nigeria as a whole.

"The Association also caution it's members not to allow politicians to use their platforms to spread fake news and unverified information for selfish interest"

ASKOMP therefore urged members to adhere to standard electoral process reporting guidelines and professional journalistic ethics in line with international best practices.

ASKOMP comprises over twenty online news media platforms operating in Kwara State, North Central zone of Nigeria. 



They include Informant247, FreshInsight, Insider, FactualTimes, Justevents, Shopen 
, SATCOM , 9japarrot, Factzone,  Intercontinental, RoyalTimes , 360vibes,  Goldennews,  Spicygist, Shemma TV, Symbol, Latest News, FactNews, Prudentwatch and Crownnews
