Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq said on Saturday that Mallam Saliu Mustapha has proven to be the perfect fit for Senator of Kwara Central and has established himself as a man of the people in past years.
At Saturday's inauguration of the Saliu Mustapha Campaign Team in Ilorin, ahead of February's general elections, the Kwara State Governor described Mustapha as a personality with a strong network that would give the state leverage in Abuja and also complement the efforts of the state government.
“The opposition are afraid of Saliu Mustapha because he is a formidable Turaki,” he said.
According to Gov. Abdulrazaq, the leader of the People Democratic Party in Kwara, Mr Saraki backed out of the senatorship race after Mallam Mustapha registered his interest in the role.
“He enjoys a wide acceptability rating among the people. We believe APC will win big with him as Kwara Central Senatorial Candidate,” he added.
Gov. Abdulrazaq urged citizens of Kwara state not to make another grave mistake of voting for a candidate of the opposition.
“We want a senator that will not turn into a contractor or use us to negotiate,” he said. “We are clearing the mess of previous administrations. We used N3.5 billion SURE-P refund to pay gratuity for 2009/2010 retirees. Who was the Governor during that period?
“I don't understand what they are coming back to do. To continue mismanagement of State resources or return us backwards where they left the State?”
Mallam Saliu Mustapha, in his remarks, urged his Campaign Team not to reduce their efforts to the House of Assembly but to work for all party flag bearers up to the President.
“We must record total victory for APC like it was in 2019,” Mallam Mustapha, the Turaki of Ilorin said.
Saliu Mustapha, the Turaki of Ilorin, disclosed that he has well-equipped campaign offices in four local government areas; ILORIN West, Ilorin South, Ilorin East and Asa for effective mobilization.
“We have equipped the office with necessary facilities including Campaign vehicles to make mobility easy during the electioneering campaigns. The Central Coordinating Team (CCT) will be receiving feedback and responding accordingly to ensure our victory during the 2023 general elections,” he said.
While inaugurating the Saliu Mustapha Campaign Team, Barr Abdulkareem said the Campaign Council comprises Central Coordinating Team (CCT), a Local Government Campaign Team and 1200 Ward Canvassers.
The Kwara APC Chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, State Commissioners for Tertiary Education, Agriculture, Communications and Finances, House of Assembly candidates for Ilorin South and Owode/Onire Constituencies; Yusuf Aladi and Rukayat Shittu, APC Kwara Central Senatorial Chairman, Party local government Chairmen, Barrister Kunle Sulyman and other dignitaries attended the event.
