••Promises Good Governance
The Young Progressives Party, YPP, Gubernatorial Candidate in Kwara State for the 2023 general elections, Waziri Yakubu Gobir in continuation of his statewide campaign tour, on Friday, visited Okuta, Yashikira, Gwanara, and Kosibosu emirates in Baruten Local Government.
Gobir and his running mate, Hon. Bolujoko George during the tour to seek the support of the residents promised to bring good governance to the doorsteps of residents across Kwara State including the rural areas.
As a respecter of the traditional institutions, Aláà nú Mẹ̀kúnnù as he is fondly called paid homage to the Emir of Okuta, HRH Alhaji (Hon) Dr Idris Abubakar, Kperogi Afon Totiri Serobetete III.
In the words of the Madawaki of Ilorin, Waziri Gobir: "For the past three years, it has become very hard on our people. Our people are finding it very hard to feed themselves but we have been assisting the vulnerable through the Gobir Foundation Organization. We have done a lot of programs from which a lot of people have benefited. Through the organisation, we have paid medical bills, and school fees and provided tractors for farmers in the State."
The Emir of Okuta, in his response, appreciated the YPP Governorship Candidate for supporting the masses, describing him as a lover of a common citizen.
His words: "I have been looking forward to meeting you because I have heard a lot about you, your genuine concern for the poor particularly amazes me. Because I ask myself when will the poor have a good life. I pray God will continue to bless you because of the poor you have been helping. I believe you can see our road network, I hope you will do the needful if elected."
Waziri's entourage includes YPP State Chairman, Chief Dele Ogunbayo, YPP Baruten Local Council Chairman, Musa Abdulkareem Shehu Shagari, KWHA candidate for Baruten constituency, Hon. Mukthar Kilishi and members of YPP State executives.
Gobir equally paid homage to the palace of the Emir of Yashikira, HRH Alhaji Umaru Usman Sariki, Sabikpasi II, for Royal blessing. He promised to establish a strong relationship with the community.
He said: “YPP is not a new party in Nigeria, but it is the first time we are bringing it to the state as a credible alternative. We have tasted both APC and PDP and we have nothing to write home about them. If for the past 3 years, it is good for every Kwarans then you don't need to listen to me. But if our people are deprived of a good life then there is a need for an alternative. I am involved in politics because I want a better Kwara, a better Kwara for Kwara south, north, and central.
"How I wish I can change the narrative with my resources but there is a limit to all I can do. All I need is your support and votes to give a better life to our people."
Waziri further charged the youth to take an active role in politics.
Responding to Waziri Gobir, the Emir of Yashikira said: “If you want to start tomorrow we start today, we do not play politics like a war but we play politics by attracting people to one's side. May God grant you your heart desires.”
After he met with party faithful and supporters in Gure, Okuta, Kenu, Nugume, and Gwanara, he also paid homage to the Emir of Gwanara, His Royal Highness Alhaji Dr Sabi Abdullahi Idris, Kotokotogi II, for royal blessing.
