Kwara Police Lift Ban On Public Gatherings

By Nurat Uthman

The Kwara State Police Command has lifted the temporary ban placed on gatherings and processions imposed on the people of the state four days ago.

A press statement signed and issued by the spokesperson of the command on Saturday said that the temporary ban placed by the police on rallies and public processions has helped to maintain and foster peace in the state.

“However, the command is fully ready to continue to discharge her constitutionally assigned duty of protecting the lives and property of citizens and residents alike.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Paul Odama, wishes to appreciate the good people of Kwara State for their determination to work with security agencies to deepen the peace and harmony the state is known for, regardless of the inconveniences attached to that,” the statement said.

Recall that police on Wednesday placed a temporary ban on unlawful rallies, processions and protests to evaluate and assess the security situation in the state.

It explained that the order on the ban became necessary following an intelligence report indicating that hoodlums had planned to hijack rallies and processions in the state to cause chaos and disrupt the current peace that the people of the state enjoy.
