The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has organized annual Ramadan lecture tagged "Ramadan with NANS: Empowering the Needy and Less Privileged in Our Environment."
The program is in partnership with Al Azady Al Ilory Islamic Foundation, Ilorin branch.
In a press statement released by the NANS Clark, Comrade Abdulbaki (Lastborn), the program is aimed to discuss the benefit of alms and the power of giving back to the society.
The statement read in parts: “As we all know, Ramadan is a very special time for Muslims around the world. It is a time of fasting, prayer, and reflection, and it is also a time of giving back to those in need. The act of giving alms or Zakat during Ramadan is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, and it is an important way for us to show our gratitude for the blessings in our lives and to help those who are less fortunate.”
According to the statement, It is believed that the theme is important as individuals continue to face economic challenges of the recently reversed cash crunch policies of the Federal Government just after recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The cash crunch has had a profound impact on our communities and individual businesses, and many people are now struggling to make ends meet. By coming together as a community and giving back, we can help to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.”
“During this year's Ramadan, the programme intends to encourage everyone to give back in whatever way they can. Whether it is through donating money to a charity, volunteering at a local soup kitchen, or simply checking in on a neighbor who may be struggling, every act of kindness can make a difference. We also want to encourage people to think about the long-term impact of their giving. By supporting education and job training programs, for example, we can help to empower people to lift themselves out of poverty and build a better future for themselves and their families.”
It is however, noted that the programme will hold on 13th of April, 2023 at the RA conference hall, Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin by 10pm, while appreciating Al Azady Al Ilory Islamic Foundation for its partnership on this initiative, adding that this is coming at due time.
