Drug Abuse: AbdulRazaq Vows to Make Kwara a Drug-Free State



Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has reiterated his commitment to making the state drug-free through investment in various multi-pronged interventions and social investment programmes.

The governor, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Kwara State Ministry of Health, Dr. Abubakar Ayinla, made the declaration at the grand finale of the 2023 edition of the United Nations International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking, held today at the State's Banquet hall, in Ilorin metropolis.

"We are committed to creating an enabling environment that will encourage the growth and evolution of every one in the state as productive," said Governor AbdulRazaq. "This includes providing opportunities for our youths to engage in gainful activities and deterring them from non-purposeful endeavours."

The governor listed some of the people-oriented investments and interventions that his administration has made to achieve this goal, including the Kwara State Innovation Hub, Visual Arts Centre, Garment Manufacturing factory, Ivitech and Sugar film factory, kwaprenuer as well as youth/students related interventions and support programmes.

The governor also urged parents to support each other in the upbringing of their children to avert exposing them to illicit drug users in the society.

The grand finale of the event featured a special musical presentation by secondary students, a drama sketch by NYSC 'Drug free Club' and the presentation of prizes and awards to outstanding schools in both essay and music categories.
