NAHCO Donates Borehole to Lagos Schools

By Nurat Uthman

To help tackle the challenge of portable water in Ewutuntun and Mafoluku communities of Lagos, the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company has inaugurated borehole projects in two schools in the communities.

According to a statement from the company, it also provided power-generating sets to power the boreholes.

The first project, which is located at State Primary School, Ewutuntun, will serve the school, Community Primary School, Ewu and State Primary School, Mafoluku.

The second borehole project, which is located at Ewu Primary School, Ewutuntun, will also serve Methodist Primary School, Ewutuntun.

Speaking at the inauguration of the boreholes, the Group Managing Director/CEO of NAHCO, Mr Indranil Gupta, noted that the projects would address the challenge of hygienic water that the pupils were facing.

Gupta said, “The borehole project is one that would provide water for the children in the schools and those who will come after them.

He added that NAHCO was committed to supporting the government through its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

He also stated that stakeholders had to come together to support the government in achieving its dream of providing a better future for pupils.

According to him, it is the duty of the community, not just the family, to raise children.

While appreciating NAHCO for coming through for the schoolchildren, the Head of Mobilisation at the Local Government Education Authority, Mrs Florence Aderemi, said that the presence of the borehole facilities would lead to an increase in enrollment and retention of children in the schools.

She pointed out that it had always been a painful experience for her to see the schoolchildren going out of school premises in search of water.

Also, a former Head Teacher at State Primary School, Ewutuntun, Mrs Nwafor, was full of gratitude to NAHCO Aviance.

She related how tough it had been for the school to cope without water.
