Senator Oyelola Ashiru, the Deputy Senate Leader and Senator representing Kwara South Senatorial District presided over the 2024 Igbomina Day Celebration held in Iludun-Oro, Irepodun Local Government Area.
The event, which brought together Igbomina indigenes and dignitaries, was a vibrant showcase of the community's rich cultural heritage.
In a significant gesture of support, Senator Ashiru announced a generous donation of N5 million towards the success of the celebration.
The Igbomina Day event aims to raise a substantial N500 million to fund the construction of an ultramodern Igbomina Plaza in Ganmo and enhance the Igbomina Community Radio.
Highlighting his commitment to preserving Igbomina culture and heritage, Senator Ashiru pledged to deliver a new transmitter for the Igbomina Radio and construct a cultural center on its premises. He also expressed his dedication to education and announced plans to invest at least N100 million in revitalizing his alma mater, Esie Iludun Anglican Grammar School.
In his address, the Senator emphasized the importance of safeguarding the Igbomina cultural identity in the face of modernization. He underscored the need to leverage cultural tourism and entrepreneurship to drive economic growth and preserve the Igbomina dialect.
Senator Ashiru called for inter-generational collaboration to ensure the continuity of Igbomina culture. He proposed expanding the Igbomina Plaza project to include a Hall of Fame and Research Center, transforming it into a hub for cultural renaissance.
The Senator concluded by expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to lead the Igbomina Day celebration and reiterated his commitment to fostering unity and prosperity within the Igbomina community and beyond.
